Happy Hanky Pankies!

I'm thankful for Rue La La and hanky panky boutiques!

Seriously, that is about the most fabulous Thanksgiving gift ever!

But, in addition to that, I'm thankful for a lot of other things. In no particular order ...

  • fingerless gloves
  • your understanding at my lack of desire to figure out how to make that picture from anthropologie the right size
  • voice recorders during class
  • my iphone
  • family, friends, and puppy dogs
  • moccasins ... my do they keep my feet toasty warm!
  • hot cocoa
  • pumpkin pie
  • noise-cancelling headphones
  • dry erase boards
  • skittles ... taste the rainbow
  • the interwebs
  • DVR
  • your understanding that I'm not an entirely shallow person, even though from this post it appears I am
  • my belief in heaven and that God is my best friend
  • a warm home and food on the table
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!

Wordless Wednesday

No words from me. I'm a major fail at the wordless part of Wednesday. One week, I'll get it. Promise!

a little of this ... a little of that

First things first ... Miss Lucy Marie you win the Target gift certificate! Send me an email with your address and I'll get it sent to you right away! Congratulations! I'm too tired too figure out how to be as spiffy as Jill and take screen shots and all, but I did use random.org and I promise it picked Lucy first. :)

Next, Holiday Ball dress. I'm leaning towards sticking with this one right now. I can't find a picture of the other one. What do you all think? Is it too bright? Should I just go with a solid black dress? What about the black tights? Wear them ... or not?

Hmmm ... I think that's it for now. I'm not really aware of anything that I have done lately that has involved anything except studying. Shocking, I know.

Here's what hickey boy wrote as a response to something on facebook about the slip and fall. Maybe he should be a guest writer. He's sort of funny!

Well...her sister's Honda was dead. Their driveway (barely) fits one car. So I had to push it across the street into their neighbors driveway (alone) so I could jump it. So, I started to push...

**SIDE NOTE: I hardly ever tie my shoes anymore. I don't really know why. I'm convinced its so I have that extra 17 seconds to study**

The car starts to roll backwards. As I get better footing and push harder, the car starts to pick up the pace. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the ground rushes up to meet my face. I was stunned. Luckily, my hands and knees were in the way. As I tried to scramble back to my feet in the puddle of cold, dirty water, I realized that I lost a shoe during my spill. *Remember, this entire time the car is rolling backwards into the street...* So I had to hop backwards, and then in one motion (which I still can't believe it worked) put my shoe back on and start sprinting towards the car to make sure that it makes it up the neighbors driveway. I caught up with the car, pushed it as hard as I could, and we got it out of the road, into the neighbors driveway.

Graceful!!

DJH

This guy is simply one of the most amazing people on the face of the earth.

Hands down.

No contest.

If I had to describe Devin in one word, it would be conundrum. However, I just looked up the definition of conundrum, and I don't think it really has the proper meaning. Great, I've been using a word incorrectly for my entire life. Yeah, something else I've apparently had backwards my entire life - flexion and extension and inversion and eversion - MAJOR FAIL Mom and Dad - but that's a story for another day. :) So, since conundrum doesn't really work, I'm going to try in bullet form.

  • That music in the upper right hand corner of my page (listen!) ... that's his, its called Dreaming While Awake. For those of you perusing mmm from the comfort of google reader, please click over. I promise you'll be happy with the music. This is sort of a new genre of music for me to enjoy. However, I LOVE IT and I've been listening to it on repeat ... it is great for studying, running, and pre-gaming. Pretty sure its right up there with some of my favorite stuff ever.
  • Not only is he musically talented, he's working on all of this while he's deployed. And not like deployed to easy peasy Guam ... but Baghdad.
  • Once the new CD comes out on iTunes, the proceeds will go to IAVA, Autism Research, and Breathe 4 Tomorrow (which is CF-related).
  • My mom loves him. Actually, of all of the guys my sister and I have ever known ... pretty sure Devin is her favorite of all time.
  • So ... he's funny, talented, and driven.
  • More importantly, he's genuine and selfless and kind.
Here's the page to find out more about him. He really is absolutely amazing. :)

And ... in Devin's honor ... let's do another fun little giveaway. We all know I am a HUGE fan of simple easy things. So, lets make this an easy one again. Leave Devin a comment (here on my page) for one entry, follow for one, tweet about it for one, blog about it for one. Ends on Friday, November 20 at 5PM CST.

What should we give away??? I'm a creature of habit, what can I say?

$100 to Target!

EDITED TO ADD: How do I know Devin? I think through my sister, maybe first? I'm not sure, but its beens since elementary school. Loads of mutual friends. And he is right between mine and my sister's class. :)

Dodgeball!!!!

What happens when you take a group of medical students and put them in an elementary school gym? Some pretty intense dodgeball! Friday afternoon, we had a fundraiser for a local elementary school. My team, well, we came in last. I was absolutely TERRIFIED of the dodgeball. Unfortunately, no one snagged a picture of my duck and run maneuvers. However, my fear served me well as I was always one of the last few members of my team still standing. And by always, I mean the 2 games we played. Maybe if I'd ever thrown a ball we wouldn't have lost so badly. Here are some pictures. I have no idea how to make the underlining go away. I apologize.

My team. I'm hiding in the back. Its no wonder we lost. We had defectors before the game even started. Notice the guy in the orange shirt? First of all, that's my shirt he's borrowing. We had to recruit reinforcements before we even started!

This is the winning team. Notice the difference in how they prepare.

These are the faces you're going to see in the ER someday. I promise they don't look like this everyday! Except for the guy in the red shorts. That's pretty much his standard. Except for the beard - its also No Shave November at school. Another fundraiser. Probably for the same elementary school, but I'm not participating, so I'm not sure.

super pong tourney 2009

Here's some med school love for you. We recently had a ping pong tournament. It was way too intense for me to even think about participating. Med school ping pong is seriously competitive and very fun. If you follow me on twitter, you might remember me slipping and falling and hurting my new during a non-competitive game. Serious injuries are not unheard of. Someday, I'll take a picture and show y'all the set up, but its 2 tables pushed together, so there is definitely some running involved, balls flying faster than the eye can follow them, and many walls that can be fallen into. Its a good time. Trust me on this one.

The team names crack me up. Here's the email I got ... (Jenny ... you might be the only one that thinks some of these are funny! :))

Be Brave

Anon posters bug me. I don't get them here, but sometimes I see comments on others pages and it drives me crazy. Grow a pair and sign your name. I've wanted to use that phrase for a very long time. It seems most appropriate here. :)

On that same note, I have a friend at school (who is actively avoiding me and refuses to even look at me, so calling us friends might not be so accurate). You like that, the whole sentence only said I have a friend at school. Really, I have more than one friend. I think. But, back to the one friend. Someone put a note in his locker and didn't sign it. It was a very, very mean note. I can't remember what it said, but it was genuinely shocking. Something along the lines of "get your head out of your ass and get over yourself."

Really people, I don't care if its online or IRL, if you feel strongly enough to say something, attach your name. If you don't feel comfortable attaching your name, it probably doesn't need to be said.

So ... I'm going to go ahead and put a few things out there that I'm willing to attach my name too.
  • I hate unclean teeth and earwax. Come on people, toothbrushes and toothpaste are not expensive. Get rid of the fuzzy plaque before you come speak to me, please. If you have earwax falling out of your ears, go to the doctor. Seriously.
  • While waiting in a food line, think about what you want to order. This way, you won't continue to hold up the line. Also, maybe go ahead and search through your oversized purse to have your money ready. Just a thought.
  • Please drive the speed limit on the highway. I hate driving home and going 50 mph when there isn't much traffic. Seriously, just because there is a traffic jam going the OTHER WAY it doesn't mean we need to slow down.
And regarding the one friend, someday I'll learn my lesson. Maybe. Absolutely no need to have any sort of extracurricular activities with anyone you see everyday. :)

Now, I'm off to dinner with a super old friend ... in fact, my 5th grade boyfriend. :)

Have a lovely evening!

And to my friends in VaB ... hope you are still around after high tide! sheesh ... it sounds terrible. My old house has water in it. I heard the water is already over the boardwalk and its not even high tide! HOLD ON!
